I helped brainstorm for the events we would do. I supervised the Obstacle Course group, and made sure they considered everything they needed to pull it off. I reminded them of materials, budget, and discussed ideas with them)
I created a modified schedule for the day (which we didn't end up using but that's okay)
I set-up and organized the events on pep rally day.
We had to do some problem solving, as we realized at the last minute that the set-up for the Cotton Ball-Vaseline game wouldn't work. I fixed the problem by changing the arrangements of the game on the floor.
Reindeer Games
I was a backseat Jedi Master for this one. Tanya was the head of the group, but her organizational system got out of hand. She had cut off the TA's of each person, and couldn't organize them into bags. I helped her solve the problem by creating a masterlist of names and cross referencing TAs.
I also helped her do some of the gruntwork, like pinning each name onto the slip of paper and putting them into the right baggies.
Crush for a Crush/Valentines Spirit Week
Head of this event
I helped brainstorm with my group to come up with fun activities or mini games for each day.
I created the posters for the event and my team put them up
I organized the cookie decorating event and the pink lemonade stand, as well as setting up and handing out the food during the spirit week
Isabella and I stayed after school to label the crushes with names and sort them by TA on the cart
Jennadee, Taylor, and I went door to door to hand out the crushes to TAs on Valentines Day
I maintained the budget spreadsheet and recorded our purchases, the cost, and where we got them.
Horizons
I was a group member for this event
My role was to learn how to use/set up the projector screen
I also helped set up, run through, and clean up the event
Carnival
Hazra and I were on top of decorations for the carnival, to ensure the theme was incorporated.
We researched prices, where we could get the decor from, and then bought the decorations
I helped clean up after the event was over
2016-2017 Reindeer Games
Co-Czar of the event, alongside Isabella
Together we planned the schedule for the length of rounds, using feedback from those who had worked on it last year. We also made a schedule for Reindeer Police
Our main role was to make the baggies of Pins&Targets for each TA, and then subsequently rematch names after each round
We gathered volunteers to write names on pins and cut out targets, but took extra days at my house to write names, organize pins into baggies, and sort out mistakes
The event was overall successful, but we had trouble with the timing. The Games extended into the new year, and we were forced to end the game in a draw, a rather unsatisfactory choice. Secondly, my hope for next year is that we have more people committed to the cause, as it was very often just me and Isabella doing the re matching, along with other people who volunteered to help us.
Additionally, I would like to add more advertising for the Games next year to increase the hype around them
Food Drive
Cassie and I were the two people who were in charge of the food drive. Cassie was the Czar of the event.
I was not involved in much of the logistics part of this event, but I did arrange the contact and pick up of the food with Carolyn Geertsen from the food bank
My role in the event consisted of: Advertisement, Collection, and Pick-Up Supervision
I visited each TA in the downstairs portion of the school to explain what the Food Drive was and how they could get involved. This was in order to make sure everyone knew it was happening, as well as to hand out the collection bags for each TA to put their food in. I also made announcements and put up posters.
Collection-wise, at the end of the drive after school, we went around to each classroom and picked up the food left outside. We transferred it to a room in the Learning Commons. Whilst we did this, we counted the points each house had earned
When the pick-up truck came to get the food, I assisted them in loading the van and also making sure all the food was present
The event itself was not as successful as we hoped. Participation came mostly exclusively from the grade nines, which is disappointing as there was much more potential for more donation. However, next year we plan to increase the overall hype of house points in order to increase the interest of the student body in events such as these.
