My Mission Statement
Why? |
The reason I love doing leadership is because it makes me feel like I'm making a difference in the school community. Our school is a bit lackluster in terms of spirit, so I wanted to manage an event that would really be fun for everyone. My mission this year to was to improve my personal leadership qualities and give our student body something to cheer about.
Going into leadership in September, I only had two goals, which were pretty simple. 1. Come to class more. Last year my attendance was pretty bad, which is the main reason I didn't get involved as much I would have liked. This year, I did attend class a lot more often, but I'll admit it was still bad. However, I did participate in planning more events, even if I wasn't an all-in planner and just helping out the team. 2. Become more reliable. This one was borne from the fact that I felt like I could have been a much better leader for myself and for my group members if I did this. When one person is unreliable, the whole group has to scramble a bit, which I didn't want to inflict on my partners. This year, my reliability fluctuated. During Crush for a Crush, I did everything I said I would, and then some. During Horizons I had one job, so that was pretty easy to fulfill. I obtained the projector for the event, learned how to use it, and came to the set-ups, run through, and clean-ups that I committed to. I followed through on most of my events, but fell short on Carnival.

The reason I joined Leadership was because I wanted to grow.
Leadership is an opportunity to make a difference and gain experience in event planning and projects. I wanted to organize events and see them take off and be successful. I wanted to talk to businesses and have contact, deal with logistics and learn how navigate through successfully planning a project, and learning why it failed, if it did. To me, Leadership was one of the most useful classes offered at Croxford because it was very "real-world"-esque. My goal when I joined leadership was to learn and grow from those around me, and plan events that both I and our student body would be proud of. Some positive things I've learned about myself throughout my time in Leadership are that I am more confident in front of crowds than I thought I was. There is still improvement to be made in my public-speaking skills, but through the Intro activities and group discussions, I think I've developed. In addition, I think that I work well in a team. During Reindeer Games, we all worked together cohesively, and it was a good system. We each did our part, and the communication really helped out. On the other hand, I've also learned a few negative qualities I possess, which are things I want to prove to myself and to my peers that I can grow out of. Commitment was a huge issue in my personal leadership involvement. Meeting attendance was my downfall, because without attending the meetings you can't be involved in projects. That was a factor that held me back. In the future, I plan to be more accountable, and that is my main leadership goal for next year. I don't want to overwhelm myself and make huge goals right now. Realistic ones are better, so for now that is my future leadership plan. |
